LOCATION

The nearby village of Leuhan (3km) has a bakery, cybercafe/brasserie and a grocery store.  It also has a covered and heated swimming pool, tennis courts and an excellent family restaurant, which has proved very popular with our guests.

For more extensive shopping, the market towns of Chateauneuf-du-faou, Scaer and Gourin are equidistant, within a 15 minute drive.  They all have a weekly market and large supermarkets, along with many charming cafes, bars and tourist attractions.

Chateauneuf du faou is situated beside the Nantes to Brest canal in the valley of the River Aulne, with panoramic views of the Montagnes Noires and the Chateau Trevarez.  Wednesday is market day and, in addition, during the summer months there is an evening farmers market with traditional music and dancing.  A popular folklore festival, Printemps de Chateauneuf, is held on Easter Sunday, bringing together musicians and dancers from all over the region.  Due to the location of Chateauneuf, fishing is extremely popular and there is even a fishing school nearby.  The canal is also ideal for long leisurely walks and cycling along the canal towpath and at the end of August, a spectacular firework display is held on the riverbank.

A grand carnival is held in Scaer every two years and is one of the biggest in France. It also has a new heated indoor pool with an aquatic toboggan, a sauna and a  steam room.  It is open all year round.

The statue of liberty erected in the town square of Gourin is representative of the many immigrants who went from the area to the USA and Canada at the beginning of the 20th century.  In the park of Tronjoly stands an 18th century chateau, constructed on the site of an ancient manor.  Access to the gardens is free and consists of many walks through woodlands and across bridges which span picturesque brooks.  An open air theatre has been built in the gardens and is home to the Fete de la Crepe each year, a two day celebration in honour of this local speciality, with traditional music and dancing.
